Nestling under a magnolia tree is a dial
celebrating the opening of the gardens to the public in 1897. The gnomons
shape derives from the Horniman H and the name of Homiman is
written in place of the 9 and 7 hour lines (1897). This however, may escape
notice, except for the few visitors who know their Morse Code!
