Forest Hill Library, Dartmouth
Road, London, SE23 3HZ - 020 8699 2065 |
Designed in the Arts & Crafts tradition Alexander
Hennell our public library it is not the dark & fusty institution one
expects.
Forest Hill library is well worth a visit. I am the new
librarian (here since January) and am finding it a very lively place in which
to work. Yes, we do provide the normal library services such as free book loans
but we also hire out for a small fee music CDs, playstations and CDRoms. We
have eleven IT terminals which can be used whether or not you are a member of
the library, each with free Internet access. Come and try them out!
Our regular events include a thriving over 55s group,
which meets on the first Monday in the month and always has an interesting
programme, an Adult Reading group which meets on the second Tuesday in the
month, twice-weekly under fives fun-times and a monthly Saturday morning
Children's Book Group. If you want to track down your local Councillor we have
one in attendance in the library on three out of four Saturday mornings. And
don't forget we are not just a static library service I have a personal
responsibility for the homebound library service, which Lewisham provides for
anyone who for reasons of disability or being a `carer' cannot get into the
library. Please contact me for more details.
We have lots of special events laid on for the next few
weeks: one of the most exciting will be monthly visits from the BBC (Mondays 9
May, 6 June and 4 July) to record local people's World War 2 stories. If you
have a WW2 story to tell please give us a ring and we'll book you in with the
BBC*. We are also planning lots of activities for the children in the summer
holidays. Look out for further details nearer the time.
We will be taking part in this year's Forest Hill Day
on Sunday 12 June so hope to make Forest Hill Library known to even more
potential customers. Come and say `Hello'!
