Wednesday 8th June 2005 was a boiling day. Bus and car passengers sweltered on the way home - until they got to London Road. Then everything came to an abrupt halt. Sirens were wailing - police, fire & ambulances tried to navigate around the stalled queus - what had happened?

When we bailed out of the bus it looked like Sainsbury's extension had disappeared ... but that was only hidden behind a long line of emergency vehicles. The seat of the problem was a few doors up London Road at number 52 - Planet Pizza.

Was it just a case of some special 'flame-grilled' pizza? Well as you can see the place is still standing. There were people inside. There was not much evidence of damage. The police and firemen were not very forthcoming and Planet Pizza are not answering the phone. A bit of a mystery and a hell of a jam!
